When my gf's sister got married, the groom's parents stole silverware at the reception. Is that normal?

My gf and mother were very upset and it took me a couple of days to find out why. Then they said the groom's parents stole some of their silverware and a plate. But they never confronted them. I think thats taking hospitality too far.
