Do writers out there sometimes regret telling folks they are writers?

Ya I usually keep it to myself but my closest family and friends do know (except my dad). He would think it was a waste of time and make fun of me for it. Needless to say he doesn't find reading books as a valuable hobby either. However sometimes telling people pays off. I found out one of my coworkers loves writing and we would have sessions together. But I think the negativity is something writers have had to deal with since the beginning of time! It stinks, especially when your parents think it's stupid, but I got over that hurdle once I realized I'm not doing it for them, I'm doing it for me! :)
